Yes in friendship opposites can become friends. When I was very young an older girl from the neighborhood wanted to be friends. We enjoyed different activities and at first I was resistant.
I was an indoor girl who liked to play dress up and make believe with two left feet and she was a sports and dance girl with great skills. She became a big sister and at times we would butt heads. She would try to teach me about life things and we’d have different views and choices. We laughed, played and became close friends that would support each other through thick and thin.
Looking back I might not have stuck out softball for three years or paid for another class of ballet. I hope I have positively touched her life as much as she and her family have touched mine. I am open to different kinds of friends in fact many are very different from me and I enjoy the diversity and gifts they bring into my life. She is one of my friends that became family.
Let’s be open to opposites and diversity with the people around us. We never know what gifts will come.
