Time for an Adventure and “To Do List” too

2/29/2016

Picture
When my Honey and I started dating I wanted to have little and big adventures. We had fun shopping and/or picking up coffee and indoor sky diving as adventures. Yesterday we were home working on the “to do list.” Our winters are fairly gray and the sun was peeking through with a bit of blue sky showing and I just wanted to go out and take a drive and see some trees and beauty.

My Honey was smart about our “to do list” we had picked what we wanted to get done earlier and we set up a time line to get it done so we could have an adventure after. Wow, we ticked off our list quickly and we had plenty of time for our adventure.

We picked up coffee and headed for a scenic highway adventure.

Have you ever felt this way and what are some of your adventures?

BFF

2/26/2016

I am grateful for my friends. They have enriched my life in many unique ways.

I want to be a fabulous friend and I must admit I do it better with other people than myself. I was reminded of this when I opened an email newsletter with the article   The Kindest Thing You Can Do for Yourself in 2015 by Martha Beck.

I want to incorporate some of it in my life. I will put up several positive sayings around my place to remind me to be the best friend I can be to myself & others. For example, Martha Beck suggests: “I really care when you’re hurting, but I know you’ll be all right in the end. I have faith in you.”

I want to be my own BFF!

Facing Fear

2/25/2016

I have had fears that have held me back at times in my life.
Three years ago I would have never thought I would:
  • Indoor Sky Dive
  • Ride on a gondola
  • Get on a helicopter (let alone take a ride at sunset).
It is a reminder to me how much my life has changed in many great ways. I am still nervous of heights although it felt empowering to walk past my fear and love the experience.

Over the years I have learned facing my fears even in small ways can help me to walk past them and enjoy the freedom.

See the Joy

2/24/2016

One day I was sitting in my living room feeling blue and I couldn’t figure out why. It was a sunny, beautiful day so I decided to take a walk.

After a while I noticed a beautiful rose and stopped and smelled it. I realized when I am busy or feeling blue I forget to take in the beauty around me in and it helps take time to notice the little joys:
  • A beautiful flower
  • A cute animal playing
  • A butterfly in flight
And I remember to see the joy around me and gifts in my life.

Walking Through Resistance

2/23/2016

I was talking to my doctor about some ongoing pain and she suggested physical therapy. There was some resistant to this and I reminded the doctor about how the last PT person didn’t know how to create a program that could help my pain and health.

My doctor mentioned it has been a while and PT has improved. I went and the first PT appointment  and when I returned she listened to how I had done and she mentioned a specialty physical therapist could be a better fit. I set up the appointment and it was a fantastic! She set up a program for me to do at home for strengthening and stretching. I still do many of the exercises she suggested and it has been a while since I had an appointment with her. She helped me find other ways in the community to get some movement and she was my physical therapist for recovering from knee surgery too.

I was glad I walked through some resistance and found a resource for fantastic tools on my wellness journey.

Brands

2/22/2016

When I was looking for work I went to a library job group to hear ideas to stand out and impress employers. One idea I heard about was a personal brand. I knew I wanted to do one and I had a lot of other projects to do to find my next job.

After the dust settled a bit I decided to take some time and work on this and my Honey offered to help. I needed to choose three to five words to create my brand.

  • My Honey and I compiled a list of words that described me
  • I underlined some of the words that really stood out on the list
  • He suggested I look at two similar words and pick the one that best fit to narrow it down more

Tapering down the list was challenging and worth the effort. I would smile when I saw my brand. The name has changed and I want to do a new one one day when other projects aren't calling to me to do.

Have you ever done a brand for yourself or business?

Person of Value

2/19/2016

I saw this quote and it really resonated with me.
I want to be a person of value. I hope to:
  • Touch lives positively
  • Make connections
  • Hear ideas that have touched others
It's fantastic to have a Facebook group for people to share ideas and positive feedback.

Up My Game with a Goal

2/18/2016

I was a practice client for a friend becoming a health coach and helped her get some hours to achieve her goal. I learned & grew through this experience. She was always positive about my improvements and goals and I want to be that way too.

When I set up goals I have the best results when setting up clear, small, obtainable ones. Sometimes there can be some resistance I need to figure out a solution for too.

My goal is?
  • Getting on the treadmill two times a week to add more movement in my life.
Make it clear how?
  • Pick two days that work best for this and a backup day for each.
Is there any resistance to the goal?
  • Wow, it can be challenging to be clear on time with my health and limitations.
How can I overcome this?
  • I will come up with an idea that fits best for my well-being and limits.
Positive Review
  • Remember to be positive in my percent of improvement no matter the amount and check in to see if I can up my game for the following week.

My new goal is to get on the treadmill on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Wednesday and Friday are my back up days.  I will be mindful of how my body feels and walk the amount of time that works best for my healthiness. Review my percent of improvement Positively on Sunday morning, with my backup day being Monday morning, and see if I can up my game for the following week.

Baby Steps

2/17/2016

It’s important for me to keep my stress down for my health. Unexpectedly I needed to move into a smaller place. I felt overwhelmed and my stress level increased.

I thought about it and realized I needed to break it down into obtainable steps …baby steps. When I could see how to walk through this with attainable goals it made it easier to do and my stress level came down.

In the process of packing I cleaned out things I didn’t use and it felt great to let things go. I have been here over a year now and when I close the door from an outing I feel happy to be home.

When faced with a big project:
  1. Come up with a plan
  2. Break it up into smaller steps
  3. If smaller steps feels to big break it down into baby steps

A big project goes smoother with a plan.

A New Goal

2/16/2016

This year one of my goals is to build in some yoga (three times a week) and I have had my ups and downs with it. I want to see if it’s a good fit for me.

It took me a long time to find some I could do because of some limitations. Out of the blue I was given a name and I checked her out. My Honey picked some DVDs up at the library for me and they were a hit. Her name is Peggy Cappy. Check her out, she is on PBS, YouTube (Preview Link) and DVD too.

I have found I needed set a clear goal with set days and have a makeup time if something comes up. This seems to be working.  I do feel better when I do some gentle yoga.

Do you have any yoga options you enjoy or experience you’d like to share?

Big Girl Pants

2/15/2016

Have you ever woke up and wanted to just pull the covers over your head and just stay there? I have had more than one morning like this.

It usually means I need to face something I don’t want to do or act on. One of those things was I needed to address some long & short term savings goals. That meant facing my budget and coming up with a new plan…yikes!   I thought about it for a while and I told myself “time to put on my big girl pants” and figure this out.
I looked around at different budget options and hadn’t found one that fit for me. Then I got some information from my bank and they gave me a great website address! I looked it over and downloaded the free forms and started work on it a bit at a time! I have a budget that lets me save towards my goals.
I am glad I put on my big girl pants and got started saving.
